Body Type: Straight Up and Down

If your body type is straight up and down you need to create curves by using different tools that I am going to tell you about.  Tailoring, ruffles, pleating, draping and contrasting colors are all great tools from your tool box to use!

You want to avoid the tube top type neckline; meaning straight across. It flattens your chest and emphasizes the fact that you don't have a waist.   A vneck is great for you or a rounded neckline.   The sexiest thing you could wear is a deep v neck with draping.  Bailey 44 usually has great pieces that fall into this category.

Stay away from solid colored dresses that have no shape.  You need something more fitted and color blocking works great!  Think cropped jackets and cropped sweaters with a slim tunic or fitted tee underneath.   Pleated pants are a must to add shape, and stay away from the skinny jean.  The skinny jean will give you a pencil shape and will add zero curves.

Instead go for a straight leg jean.  Of course you can always rock the boot cut.  Skirts are great for you!  Straight up and downs usually have great legs, show them off!  The legging with a riding boot, short vest and fitted tunic is a hot look for you! Remember you need to add design and when shopping look for items that will give you a waist!   Victoria's Secret "Back Off Baby Low Back Bustier" is a convertible strapless shaper that helps manage your middle and create curves.  It is $58 at http://www.victoriassecret.com/

White Jeans/Pants and Labor Day

Do you really need to stop wearing white after Labor Day? The answer to me depends on where you live.  I love white pants, white jeans, and white skirts.  White is clean, healthy, and bright.   It does have a summer feel to it, some white clothing has a different weight to it and is not acceptable for a cold fall or winter day. Think linen! But you don't have to pack away your favorite whites if you live in certain parts of America.

So here in California it is 98 degrees today and will still be 98 degrees on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and most likely through the end of the month.  I am sure the same goes for Florida, Texas, Mississippi, and other southern states.  I can assure you that next Friday on my way to meet my girlfriends for cocktails on the outdoor patio at our favorite restaraunt I will wear my white capris if my heart desires.  I think you should too!  My rule for where I live is no white after October 1st.  If you are in a warm climate you should live by the same rule.  The only place you can get away with white all year long is Hawaii!

If I were still living in Chicago I would not wear white after Labor Day. I would not wear white in New York nor anywhere where it feels like fall.  Do you wonder where this rule started?  The roots of the idea that people should not wear white after Labor Day appear to be shrouded in mystery! No one really knows!

I do know the rule started out with white pumps and dresses. You know what I think about white pumps?  They should never be worn at any time of the year, unless you are a bride!  What is acceptable after Labor Day is winter whites.  Winter whites is creme and ivory. I love a creme or ivory long wool coat!  Yum!

Hot Colors For Fall....

I admit it; my favorite color to wear in fall, umm, winter, umm spring, and yes, summer is black. I think we all love to wear black. I am not going to try and say that I am going to start wearing color, that is a lie, I will always stay with black. But what I can do is add accent colors to go with my black.  For instance a colored scarf or tee or blazer or hat or shirt will take you from your head to toe black and looking like you are heading to a funeral to looking like you are the sunshine in the cloudy day.

Some of my favorite fall accent colors are red, camel, grey, and purple.  Camel and black are super sophisticated and classy together.  Find a rocking camel blazer, put on a fitted tee or black turtleneck underneath, add a pair of skinny jeans, high boots and you are Yale smart and New York chic!

I love grey oversized sweaters.  Take a grey sweater and pair it with a pair of black ponte pants or legging and tall riding boot and you scream sexy and confident.  Grey is a hard color for some to wear, if you are one of the people that can't wear grey try chocolate brown or charcoal grey.  Charcoal grey is almost black. It is a great alternative to heather grey.

Purple is one of my favorite colors to wear.  I am talking deep purple, think plum.  I love purple in a crisp shirt or sweater or even a leather jacket.  Almost everyone can wear purple.  Purple doesn't wash you out and looks great with denim and black!

Red and black is simply sexy!  My favorite color is red and I love wearing it with black! The sexiest thing a woman can wear, in my opinion, is a red dress with a black stiletto.  I love a black leather jacket with ponte pants, and a red tee, add some stiletto boots and you are sexier than Beyonce on stage shacking it for the world.

Green is gorgeous, orange is another favorite, you need to decide what color works best with your skin and hair color.  While wearing all black is hot and sexy, you have to mix it up, make it your own, and have fun with your passion for fashion!
